This is an important fact about laser rust remover: Is the wider scan width of a laser rust removal gun better ?
A wider width, at the same power, means using a larger focal length focusing lens, so that the power of the laser beam, will be smaller.
The maximum scanning width is determined by the focusing lens, but the adjustable range is determined by the oscillation of the vibrating lens inside the scanning gun. In other words, adjusting the scan width within the system does not make the laser beam power larger or smaller.
Therefore：
A 1000W laser rust removal machine equipped a 15cm scanning width focusing lens has 1.8-2.0 times more powerful laser beam than one with a 30cm scanning width focusing lens.
A 1000W laser rust removal machine equipped a 15cm scanning width focusing lens has similar powerful laser beam with a 2000W laser rust removal machine equipped a 30cm scanning width focusing lens.
There are two differences:
1. a 2000W machine with a 30cm wide focusing lens （F800) can process a larger area (about twice as large) when the rust removal gun is moved the same distance than a 10000W machine with a 15cm wide focusing lens (F400）
2. A machine with a 30cm wide focusing lens has a longer focal length, which allows it to maintain a longer distance from the workpiece and is relatively less affected by the fumes generated during descaling.
If this is not easy to understand, you can think of the laser beam in welding mode as a cleaning laser beam. It is very powful, but narrow and has short focal length.
Please note: When the scanning width in the system is set narrower while the scanning speed remains the same, the number of laser beams sweeping across the work surface per unit time will increase, so if the cleaning gun is moved at the same speed, then a narrower width will still have better cleaing results.
However, in some cases, when cleaning certain adhesions, such as thicker rust or thicker paint, if the power of the laser beam is larger than a certain threshold, the efficiency will increase significantly.
This is the reason why sometimes we need to obtain a higher power laser beam by using higher power laser generator or by changing the focusing lens.
